THE SANDBOX is excited to announce the 2021 Summer Beach Volleyball Tournament Series! Our tournaments will be held at The Sandbox Indoor Beach Sports Center in Groton CT, Esker Point Beach in Groton CT, and Ocean Beach Park in New London CT.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If a Division is full and you want to play, PLEASE REGISTER anyway to get on the WAIT LIST!  The number of nets allocated to each Division will be throttled based on the number of teams registered for each Division, up to the stated Division maximum.  If your team doesn’t get in your registration fee will be 100% refunded – so if you want to play, register today!

REGISTER and pay through the AVPAmerica web site:

- $80 per team, payment is required at time of registration, or your entry will be removed from the Entry List without notice or recourse.

- All registering teams MUST have two (2) Players listed, and BOTH Players MUST have a VALID AVPAmerica membership, at the time of registration. Any team registered as a 1-Player team (no Player 2 listed), or any team registered with Player(s) not having a valid AVP America membership, will be removed from the Entry List without notice or recourse.

- Due to a limited number of nets at some of our event venues, the number of available nets per Division will be ‘throttled’ based on registrations.  If all nets are not fully allocated by the Wednesday before the tournament then available nets will be allocated to Divisions with a Wait List, or new Divisions.

- For tournaments at our Indoor Beach facility, if the Divisions offered have enough demand we will run a morning 830am to 300pm tournament, and an afternoon 300pm to 900pm tournament.

FORMAT:

- Doubles (2X2) 

- Pool play with single elimination finals.

DIVISIONS*:

- Intermediate (B)

- Skilled (A)

- Advanced (AA)

- Open (Open)

*Divisions may be combined at the discretion of the Tournament Director.

SCHEDULE:

8:30 am – All divisions checkin

9:00 am - 1st match start 

2:15 pm – estimated time that final matches will occur

*For any matches starting later than 9am, point penalties may be applied at the discretion of the Tournament Director. 

NUMBER OF TEAMS and NETS:

- The Sandbox Indoor Beach Sports and Events Facility: 3 net maximum, 15 teams maximum per division

- Esker Point Beach: 8 net maximum, 10 teams maximum per division

- Ocean Beach: 20 net maximum, 25 teams maximum per division

- Advance registration and payment is REQUIRED to guarantee your team spot!

- Walk-ons will be accommodated as able.

 PRIZES:

- All Men’s and Women’s Open Divisions will offer a $500 minimum prize purse (1st place - $300, 2nd place - $200) based on a minimum of 10 teams in each Division. Any $500 tournament with less than 10 teams will deduct $60 from the prize purse total for each team under 10

- Tournaments offering more than $500 prize money will award that amount regardless of how many teams compete, with a portion of the prize purse being awarded to the 3rd place teams.

- All Men’s AA, Women’s AA and Coed AA Divisions will offer a $250 prize purse (1st place - $150, 2nd place - $100) based on a minimum of 10 teams in each Division. Any $250 tournament with less than 10 teams will deduct $60 from the prize purse total for each team under 10

- Merchandise, sponsor prizes and beach volleyball essentials available to all Divisions at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
